Preparation for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
THIS PICTURE IS OUR 2006 EXHIBIT.
Once again Millais Nurseries will be the only specialist Rhododendron grower at the prestigious London event from 19-23 May. See www.rhs.org for details and tickets. This year we have an enlarged stand inside the Grand Pavilion (Stand number GPC/8). Do come and visit us if you can.
Our theme this year is BRITISH PLANTS, a great subject as we will be exhibiting plants collected from the Himalayas by famous plant collectors such as Frank Kingdon-Ward, Keith Rushforth, and even our own Ted Millais. Also to be featured will be some of the great hybrids raised over the past century by British breeders such as Arthur George, George Hyde and his daughter Rosemary, and a selection of our own hybrids raised by Ted Millais.
Preparations for the exhibition started before Christmas, and have been a particular challenge. After a cold winter we thought all the flowers would be late, but the exceptional warmth and light levels of April has encouraged the blooms to flower up to 4 weeks early! Fortunately our friends at Blackmoor Fruit Nursery (www.blackmoor.co.uk) have helped us out with cold storage. Most of our plants are now held back at 3 degrees Centigrade waiting for their time to shine!
