Fragrant, small, pendant white flowers with crimson stamens in May and June. Prefers a sheltered semi-shaded site in any good soil, and will tolerate chalk. Forms a broad spreading large shrub or small tree up to 6 metres in height. The dark brown, almost black stems add interest to the winter garden landscape.
Discovered in 1904 by E H Wilson in China, found growing in scrub or moist forest and open fields.
