Deciduous Azaleas
Deciduous azaleas are very hardy, and give a dazzling array of colour from April to July, peaking in late May.  Although some shade is appreciated in the South of England, they will grow quite satisfactorily in full sun, provided they have sufficient moisture.  We are seeing renewed interest in the old Ghent hybrids with their subtle smaller flowers and scent.  Knap Hill and Exbury azaleas are renowned for their large flowers and bold, bright colours, but often lack scent.  Many of the species for which we are now well known, give an excellent range of foliage colour and scent.
