FAQ's

What is the best time to order?

We dispatch plants all year. Autumn planting is by far the best time to aid establishment.  Lots of new root will be made in the autumn to support new spring growth and flowering.  However, Rhododendrons can be successfully planted throughout the year.  Early ordering is advised as some plants sell out quickly and will not be available until the following September.  Orders can be placed securely on our website or over the phone.

How long will it be until my plant arrives?

We aim to deliver as soon as possible, typically 5 to 7 working days for mainland UK, but the vagaries of the weather can sometimes delay things!  Please see more information on delivery here.

How is my plant being delivered?

Your plants are carefully boxed up and sent by overnight parcel courier to mainland England and Wales, for delivery from Tuesday to Friday.  Deliveries to some areas of Highlands and Islands will take 2-3 days.  Large plant orders and specimen plants (over 60-70cm) will be sent by pallet on a large lorry for kerbside delivery only, Wednesday to Friday.

Can I get my plant delivered to another address?

Yes, plants make ideal gifts and can be sent to friends and relatives.  Some addresses can be difficult for a courier to locate, or inappropriate for parcels to be left outside.  Customers may prefer to receive their delivery to an alternative address, for example a neighbour or workplace.  You can complete these details when ordering online.

Can I send a plant as a gift?

Yes.  Plants make perfect gifts for green-fingered friends and relations.  We have such a large range, there might even be one with an appropriate name!

What happens if I’m not home when my plant arrives?

We prefer to obtain a signature, and can try to arrange delivery on days you are at home.  Alternatively, the courier can follow brief instructions such as ‘leave in porch’, but please note this is at your risk.

Can I reserve a plant that is not in stock?

Sorry we cannot take advance orders for plants that are not in stock.  We propagate over 900 different varieties at our Nursery and some plants are on a three year propagation cycle so you may have to be patient if you are looking for a particular variety.  You can always add the plant to your Wish List and we will let you know when it is available.  Rare plants do sell out quickly and are only grown in small quantities, so prompt ordering will avoid disappointment.

When do you get new supplies?

Unlike garden centres, we rarely buy in plants because nobody else matches our range and quality requirements.  We grow the plants ourselves, so if we are out of stock, the next batch will normally be available in September but this does depend on growing conditions. Many of our plants are on a three year propagation cycle so you may have to be patient if you are looking for a particular variety.

Will you place the plant in my garden for me on delivery?

Sorry, but our couriers will only leave the delivery in a convenient place!

Does the plant have a guarantee?

We promise to provide quality plants, but care is needed to enable them to establish in your garden. We guarantee to replace or refund to cost of plants which fail to perform for a reasonable period of time after delivery, providing they have been cared for correctly and the blame can reasonably and fairly attributed to us. We do understand that occasionally problems can arise with living plants. However, if your plants do not grow properly due to neglect on your part, then we share your disappointment, but we cannot share your liability. Specialist rare plants can be a challenge to grow, and success is not guaranteed.

Please refer to our planting instruction and advice supplied with your order confirmation email. We cannot be held responsible for poor planting and care, extremes of weather, pests, diseases and hazards which are beyond our control. We will require you to email photographs of the plant and label along with your original order number to sales@rhododendrons.co.uk to enable us to investigate any problem.

We will endeavour to help identify the cause of any problems, and to replace or refund where appropriate. You will be charged for delivery on replacement items. Our liability is limited to the price paid for the plant and not for any consequential loss. Genuine complaints or problems will be treated fairly and with courtesy.

Can I return the plant if I don’t like it?

You can return any plant you are not happy with within 30 days of receiving it. We will not pay the costs of returning an item to us.

Until we receive the goods you are returning, they are your responsibility. For your protection and peace of mind, we recommend you use a recorded delivery service to return items.  To get a full refund for the plant, simply return it to us in its original condition, in its original packaging within 14 days of cancellation.  If the plant has been damaged or is not returned in its original packaging, we reserve the right to withhold a percentage of the refund value if the item needs to be reduced in price for resale.
