Wonderful and striking large goblet-shaped rosy-red flowers, pinky white within, appear in mid-April. This is a vigorous grower which makes a large deciduous shrub or small tree. Magnolia x soulangeana is the best known of all the Magnolias. It was first introduced by Etienne Soulange-Bodin, a cavalry officer in Napoleon's army. In 1820 he crossed Magnolia denudata with M. liliiflora and the rest, as they say, is history. Clones of Magnolia x soulangeana have been raised all over the world and this particular clone is a stunning example.
